In February 2022, I’m launching paid content on America Explained. The number of posts per month will rise and come in four new categories:
News Cycle. This is usually a quick hit about something in the news, providing background, context, or my take (the latter usually involves some of the former).
Worldly Wise. A more in-depth column about U.S. foreign policy, published at least once a month.
The Pundit. A more in-depth take on an issue in American politics, published at least once a month.
History Corner. Monthly posts highlighting an interesting and relevant event, personality or idea from American history - fresh from my day job as a historian.
Being a paid subscriber means never missing out on a post.
A subscription is also priced low, at just €5 a month or even less if you pay annually. You might still be wondering why you should pay this. First and foremost, for the content - the different types of columns offered mean more variety, insight and entertainment than a regular Substack. I wear many hats in my life - I’m a historical researcher, a foreign policy expert, and a columnist - and that means I can offer a wide range of material.
But a secondary reason to subscribe is also to help me do all of these things - I prize writing for popular audiences and developing a connection with people who enjoy my writing, but I can’t do it for free. A small contribution from you helps me to keep doing what I’m doing, and even grow into new areas. So I really hope you’ll consider subscribing, and after you do you’ll engage with the posts, leave comments, and help me shape the publication going forward.
