One aspect of this I've always thought somewhat awkward is that whilst clearly the immediate Republican priority is to keep Trump on the ballot, you don't hear them saying much about the possible risk of Biden doing in 2024/2025 what Trump in 2020/2021, especially if it is established there are no legal consequences for doing so.
Very true. I think that also really the best thing that could happen for most elite Republicans is that the Supreme Court disqualifies Trump. They get to complain about it and act the victim and then pick a presidential candidate with a much better chance of winning. But it would be political death for any of them to say that publicly.
