I've enjoyed your commentary and mostly agree with your views, though at times, you omit information to bolster your argument. Case in point, I would suggest that "some additional troops" from Mexico - 10,000 is the reported number - is more than just a "symbolic gesture". It remains to be seen how effective these reinforcements will be, but stating the actual figure is more objective reporting.
Thanks for your reply and I appreciate your perspective. The reason I call it a symbolic gesture is that the vast majority of drug smuggling into the U.S. (90% of fentanyl, for instance) occurs at legal border crossings as part of commercial and passenger transits. And most of it is trafficked by U.S. citizens. So this deployment will likely have almost no impact on that. This is the third time in six years that Mexico has committed to surging National Guardsmen to the border in this way, with little to no discernible impact on fentanyl traffickng. As for migration, measures taken under the Biden administration in cooperation with Mexico already led it to hugely step up its enforcement, contributing to a sharp drop in arrivals which has already happened. Again, it's not really clear that this additional deployment will do much more. However, I appreciate that I sometimes mix a more opinion-y style of writing with reporting and it would be helpful to include details like this in the post itself.
another line to the poem could read..."Trump enters our reality with bluster and then passes, leaving dismay and questions. Like a fart in a whirlwind.."
You are 100% right that it is a dominance display and that Canada buckled. But, it is also a distraction. While Trump may not operate rationally he does share a visceral hatred of government and any law that constrains his profit. Thus he is 100% on board with Musk's takeover, not because he believes in nationalism but because he expects to make money.
Trump is a "showman" he needs to have his ego stroked to achieve anything - beware America he and his "yes" staff - Musk, et al are taking us down a road that will take generations to undo.
